Can you please explain the logic of the news filter? I'm curious to know.

Typically a high draw down starts to form a few days before an important news because market usually prices in the forecast of the news. If what the filter does is to stop trading on the day of the news, then it will not work because you are likely to have quite a bit of on-going trades then.

No sleep EA doesn't take into account news, slippage or spread change. So BT should yeild similar result as FT.

I agree that starting lot size of 0.1 is high for $1000 balance. With such a high lot size and small account balance it will fail.

oshaban, why don't u suggest a suitable setting for back test? U know better than any one else the setting a for the EA to pass the BT.

From my BT, I find the EA failing when the market is trending in a direction. I don't think if it will be any different in FT since the EA is just using normal grid trading and not a hedging grid.

If u close the trades when drawdown is high(say over 20%) and continue after a day, the EA looks to be profitable. Since the EA doesn't have these settings, I am trying this out in FT. But without a trending market, I can't try this out easily.


This EA is very profitable in general market. But when there is a high up trend or down trend, it will fail unless there is a huge account balance. Need to find some way to overcome this.

I have been running this for past 2 weeks in demo account and it's highly profitable with very low drawdown.

Not easy to produce a good EA, it takes time to keep updating to be good. You can do it!

 

I would like to address a few points here to clear up all the confusion and juvenile questions that I’m seeing here.

1. Is back test accurate?

I have 6 instances of live account MT4 running the same EA with the same settings opened on the same day. One month later, I observed that the results are all different. When you load a robot at 1PM and load another robot at 1.30PM with the same broker and same settings, the results are already different due to differences in spread and the prices. Spreads change at different times of the day.

During New Zealand exchange hours and during news announcements, spreads are widened. Therefore I can have two accounts starting out very similar (same lot size, same entries) but over time, the TP levels will differ slightly and eventually it results in taking profit at different times And it creates a cascading difference of results. During news, one account can experience a high draw down while another account (again with the same EA and settings) does not experience that just because it has taken profit earlier and now restarts on the next series of trades.

Also different brokers offer different kind of spreads. A cents accounts, standard account and ECN account have obviously different spreads. Note that when you do a back test on MT4, it allows you to specify one spread size and uses this throughout the testing period but in reality, this spread changes dynamically.

In conclusion, back test is not accurate at all. But it does give you an indication whether the EA should even be put to Forward test.

2. Why do you see the strong equity dive at the end of the back test?

This has to do with the nature of martingale strategy. A lot of misinformed idiots here have this connotation that the EA is a money making one stop solution. Your responsibility is to understand how the strategy works, use your brain and set up the conditions which allows you to gain maximum profit with the lowest amount with risk with this EA.

There are two reasons why you see the dive.

The first reason is because at the end of the test period, say you specify 1st Jan 2017 to 31 March 2017, there are still pending trades on 31 March, and the backtest will just close all trades therefore resulting in losses. If you change the end test period to the first week of April, you may not see that equity dive.

The second reason is because you are using a standard account with a lot size that is too large. You need to first understand how a martingale strategy works then will you have the right expectations of your results.

The most ideal will be using a cents or micro account offered by either XM or FBS and use a small lot size. If you are hoping to get rich fast from any EA, then you are a special breed of retard. The whole point is that you need to experiment for yourself and run your test, adjust the settings and rerun the test instead of asking for a set file because your broker you use is different from mine and your entry to the market is different from mine.

I hope this helps to clear some air.
